Under The Stairs began in September 2004 as a Manchester underground basement party for soulful misfits looking for a place to escape from the city's over-crowded funky house madness. Since then the event has been skulking around a veritable plethora of Basements and Attic spaces with the mission of bringing quality music to the city.
The gents involved with the project are known as Tom Lynch (also of Sheffield 's Pin-Up Club) & Chris Feinmann (also of the NHS). They often DJ together, and enjoy nothing more than belting out as much deep house, disco, soul and Hungarian folk as humanly possible in a night's work.
After many months of successful residents parties, UTS decided to flex their business biceps and bring in some entertainment from accross the pond. Before they knew it Chris and Tom were playing host to the world's greatest live house band, Tortured Soul - for a sweaty Sunday night of mayhem at The Roadhouse in Manchester .
At this stage, the lads knew they were on to a good thing and joined up with fellow Mancunian house obsessive, Andy Proctor from Tweak. From here, things went a bit mental as they welcomed Danny Krivit and Joe Claussell for a massive party at the Annexe in Liverpool, before DJ'ing at a series of parties over the summer with Franck Roger, Quentin Harris and Alix Alvarez. The bald, but ever-charming UTS boys then went on to guest at a series of dates with Manchester's Angel Deelite, joining London boy Neil Pierce and Chi-town legend Terry Hunter along the way. The guys also appeared at underground adventures such as Lights Down Low in Sheffield and Manchester's al fresco saviour The D:Percussion Festival and have recently celebrated their 1st birthday with a live performance from fellow mancunians Crazy Penis.
Looking forward, Tom and Chris are set to begin their new residency: Development @ The Mint Lounge in Manchester 's Northern Quarter where they look forward to visitors Paul 'Trouble' Anderson and Phil Asher in December.
It's been a mad old 14 months!
